September 27- October 3 (Chiricahua)
Monday started off rather dull. Another day of seed collecting and weed picking. But during lunch we call Danielle (the SCA coordinator) and she wanted us to come over to Chiricahua for Wilderness Appreciation Day and to explain seed collection and the recon unit some more.
Tuesday we do a 2 and 1/2 hour drive to Chiricahua and stop in Bisbee for coffee (and italian soda for me). It's a cute little old mining town, with a a lot of little shops. Sadly I was driving so I didnt get any pictures along the way. Anyways, we get to Chiricahua and it is AMAZING! Its twice the size of Coronado, it has huge evergreen trees and amazing bluffs. * Coronado looked bland in comparison. The rest of the day we went over some more seed species to collect and practiced the recon.
Wednesday we go on a 5 mile 'wilderness appreciation' hike to 'inspiration point', Basically its an excuse for everyone to hike and get paid for it, but hey I'm not complaining haha. The rest of the day was a park service lunch, practicing the recon unit and then followed by a tour of the Faraway Ranch. There is all sorts of history that happened at Chiricahua including the Buffalo Soldiers and Giranomo. The day wrapped up and we drove home- I drove again because I really enjoy driving, it makes me happy.
Thursday morning we did more weed pulling and then in the afternoon Laura and I went out with the recon unit and mapped out some more illegal trails. Unfortunately neither one of us was focused and ended up following a UDA trail up the mountain and away from the road, which was not the goal of the day. My bad.
Friday Danielle told us to take the day off! WOOHOO! (:
That was the week. I realize that was kind of bland, but I figured to keep it short and let the pictures speak for them self.
